It is ready for a new owner who will value this rare Bowtie 'hybrid'. ![]() Look at the photos again, but understand that this sweet El Camino must be seen to be fully appreciated. Our current owner has taken excellent care of this classic Chevy. The clean chassis mounts power steering and 4-wheel power drum brakes w/dual master cylinder. A 4-speed manual transmission delivers torque to a stock differential. It is fitted with an aluminum intake, mild street cam, Edelbrock carb and a free-flowing dual exhaust system. Power is said to be furnished by a totally rebuilt 327/300bhp motor that is nicely detailed and sits in a clean engine compartment. Comfort features include AM/FM stereo system, custom mats, factory wheel, tinted windows, gauge package and tachometer. Carpeting, headliner, door cards and dash are in excellent condition. The handsome restored Red vinyl interior is more inviting than the GM original. Chrome and stainless are excellent and polished 15” American Racing wheels mount Kumho performance radials. The exterior was reshot in two-stage White and is in very good condition. This 1965 Chevy El Camino received a full restoration (2004) with mechanical upgrades. The second generation was reintroduced in 1964 and was based on the Chevelle platform. ![]() The first generation was based on the full-size Chevrolet sedan chassis and was only built for two years. Most of the other engines were carried over from 1964, including the 194 and 230 cubic-inch Turbo Thrift sixes, the 195 hp (145 kW) 283 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8 and 327 cubic-inch Turbo-Fire V8s of 250 and 300 hp (186 and 224 kW).Chevrolet created their first 'hybrid' pickup in 1959 – the El Camino. The 1965 El Camino received the same facelift as the 1965 Chevelle, with a more pronounced V-shaped front end, and a higher performance L79 version of the 327 engine rated at 350 hp (261 kW) that was also available in Chevelles. The shocks were continued over all generations, the frames only thru 1967. El Caminos also featured Air shocks in the rear, as well as fully boxed frames. ![]() Added to the El Camino's option list during the course of the 1964 model year were two versions of the 327 cubic-inch small block V8 rated at 250 and 300 hp (186 and 224 kW)-the latter featuring a higher compression ratio of 10.5:1, larger four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts. The standard V8 was a 283 cubic-inch Chevrolet small block with two-barrel carburetor and 195 hp (145 kW) with optional engines including a 220 hp (164 kW) 283 with four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts. ![]() Initial engine offerings included six-cylinder engines of 194 and 230 cubic inches with horsepower ratings of 120 and 155 hp (89 and 116 kW), respectively. The 1964 model was similar to the Chevelle two-door wagon forward of the B-pillars and carried both "Chevelle" and "El Camino" badges, but Chevrolet marketed the vehicle as a utility model and Chevelle's most powerful engines were not available. Renamed Caballero in 1978, it was also produced through the 1987 model year.Ĭhevrolet reintroduced an all new, mid-size El Camino four years later based on the Chevrolet Chevelle. GMC's badge engineered El Camino variant, the Sprint, was introduced for the 1971 model year. Production resumed for the 1964–1977 model years based on the Chevelle platform, and continued for the 1978–1987 model years based on the GM G-body platform.Īlthough based on corresponding General Motors car lines, the vehicle is classified in the United States as a pickup.
